The animated Pixar movie of WALL-E portrays a very dystopian view on technology.
Planet Earth is no longer suitable for life because of uncontrolled waste caused by overconsumption of the newest technology.The WALL-E robots were created to fix this human error, while humanity escaped into space on a five year space cruise aboard the AXIOM ship. These AXIOM spaceships were built to comfort humanity. Everything had been provided. Food was now a flavored shake. Fashion was a uniform space suit. There was no longer need for walking; one could stay seated in a comfortable hovering chair where a holographic screen kept one "connected" with friends and trends. This film begins 700 years after the five year space cruise. Only one WALL-E remains functioning. This WALL-E continues its routine function of stacking garbage cubes. As the film continues, the audience becomes aware that WALL-E has more human characteristics than the entire human race aboard the AXIOM. The people aboard the spaceship are so consumed in their virtual worlds that they do not notice anything going on around them. WALL-E, on the other hand, shows amazement and a longing to find love. WALL-E indeed finds his soulmate in a she-robot named EVE, who was sent to Earth to find evidence that the planet is suitable for life once again. After finding this evidence, EVE and WALL-E are taken to the AXIOM ship. It is here that the audience finds out about a massive conspiracy that wants to keep humanity in space. After this plot twist, the fighting begins between the heroes and the anti-heroes. The people on board the ship reencounter their humanity after witnessing the culmination of the fight when WALL-E self-sacrifices himself in order to save all of the humans (ironic). In the end, the heroes win (of course) and humans return to Earth. They leave their tech-filled lives and start their new lives connecting with the planet and each other.
